Diverse Builders constructed a 12-bed extension to the Dementia Wing for Warramunda Village in Kyabram, which was the first building of its kind in Victoria. The building’s internal fit-out was developed specifically for residents with dementia, with an older-style feel and a calming colour palette chosen to help residents identify with their surrounds. Every aspect of the building was kept as traditional as possible to provide the residents with familiar surroundings.

Diverse Builders overcame several challenges. The roof design for the raised ceiling required creative thinking from our steel truss manufacturer and construction staff. Connecting the extension to an existing building also meant full fire safety requirements needed to be retained.

Coordinating the plumber with other trades was vital to efficient construction of a building with so many ensuites. Our supervisor was on the job 95% of the time, ensuring that no problems were encountered with sub-floor plumbing or the electrical rough-in.

The units achieved better than 5-star energy efficiency cost-effectively, without any special, expensive, innovative products.
