And the winner is…

We entered two buildings into the Master Builders Association (MBA) awards this year. And guess what… We won awards for both of them!

We won Best Custom Home under $200,000 for one of our Hot Priced Homes which has three-bedrooms and two living areas. We also won Excellence in Construction of a Commercial Building $1-3M for our work on the Mooroopna Police Station.

It’s the residential award that I’m most excited about, largely because we built it for a great young couple who are working hard to get established. Josh and Tonii are in their early 20s and they have two little kids (they star on our testimonials page, if you’d like to meet them). They initially planned to buy an existing house, but they couldn’t find anything affordable that suited them and didn’t need a lot of work. Until they came to us, they had no idea they could build a new home, which met all their criteria, within their budget.

I sent them a text when the award was announced and they were thrilled to know their new home was an award winner. I’ll give them a copy of the award to show prospective buyers, if they choose to sell one day. I’m really happy to have helped a hard working young couple make such a good investment.

We have won awards in the Best Custom House category before, but for houses that cost a lot more than $200,000. This award just goes to show that our Hot Priced Homes are a really inexpensive way for first home buyers to enter the housing market, without compromising quality or cutting corners. The first criteria you have to meet to win this award is quality construction, so we’re clearly leading the pack on that front.

Josh and Tonii’s brick veneer house has wall and ceiling insulation and eaves, a portico over the entrance, built-in robes in every bedroom, a two-way bathroom and a linen cupboard. They got to choose their bricks, tiles, carpet, paint and kitchen from our Hot Priced Homes range. It was all included in the price, along with connections to power, water, sewer and stormwater.

Our other award was for Excellence in Construction of a Commercial Building $1-3M. An experienced builder, who won one of the more expensive residential categories, came up to me at the ceremony and said he was wrapped that we could win awards for an entry-level home as well as a major commercial project. I think that does make us pretty unique.

The commercial project was for the Mooroopna Police Station, which shone because of our attention to detail. The timber-framed building had a variety of external claddings, including 720 compressed sheet panels – each a 45cm square – which we painted blue and white, as well as rendered brickwork and Alucobond.

We also used an interesting material to construct the building’s large deck; Modwood, which is a low-maintenance and environmentally sound material made from recycled wood and plastic.

The quality of our plastering, joinery and floor coverings also contributed to us winning the award.
